The ROPE (Rites of Passage and
Empowerment) program is an initiative of the Women of Color Giving Circle, based
in Pittsfield, MA.
Since 2010, ROPE has supported more than 200 girls of color from Berkshire
County in pursuing their educational goals, personal development, global
citizenship, and civic responsibility. The founder, Shirley Edgerton, recognized the need for adolescent girls of color to develop
their voices and inner selves in a single-sex setting and desired to provide 8an opportunity for
them to transition into
womanhood in a nurturing and supportive environment and to interact with
professional women of color in school and other settings in Berkshire County.
CIAO! musicians are honored to perform
in support of this important work in our community and are especially excited
for the opportunity to collaborate with ROPE participants on an arrangement of
"Stand Up," co-written by Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo
and performed in the newly-released film, Harriet.
