Tenores de Aterue concert Friday, March 21

On March 21 at 7:30 PM Tenores de AterĂșe return to St John’s for a concert of harmonic singing from Sardinia, Corsica and Italy.

Founded in 2008 the Tenores have performed in the US, Canada and Sardinia, where they have received popular and critical acclaim for their prowess in the art of cantu a tenore, a traditional song form that involves harmonic throat singing in parts.  With complex interlocking dance rhythms magnified by ringing guttural overtones, the sound is, at once, otherworldly and infectiously downhome.

Tenores de AterĂșe are Avery Book (bassu), Gideon Crevoshay (mesu oche), Carl Linich (contra), and Doug Paisley (oche).  This will be the Tenores first tour since traveling to Sardinia last May where, says Book,  “we learned more in three weeks than in the five years before. We are excited to share with American audiences new songs and nuances of our post-Sardinia sound.”

Suggested donation$10-$15 at the door.

In concert - Wedesday, Dec. 4 at 7 pm in the Lower Room Gallery

CIAO! is a new string ensemble directed by Jimmy Bergin.  The musicians are students from grades 5 and up as well as adults.  The concert will feature a wide range of music including: Bach chorales; concerti by Telemann and Vivaldi;  fanfares by Mouret; folk music of Hungary, Israel, and Italy; old-time favorites Sweet Georgia Brown, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, and Ain't She Sweet.

A key part of the group's mission is to support local outreach efforts, and so while admission to the concert is free, we are asking for donations of any amount that will be given to the Berkshire Food Project and the Friendship Center Food Pantry.  The concert will be held in the Lower Room Gallery at St. John's, which is currently the site of an exhibition of paintings and collages by Williamstown artist Alison Kolesar; all of the proceeds from sales of works from this exhibition are also being donated to these two local agencies.

Please come and bring your friends and family - children are welcome, a great chance to see and hear instruments close up!

Refreshments will follow this one-hour concert!
